Meaning: (Lilac Flower, Pale Purple Color, From the familiar flower; heard occasionally in Victorian times. The word "lilac" comes from the Arabic word "laylak" or the Persian word "nylac", both which mean "blue". Bluish Purple, Lilac is an Old French word for the lilac plant and the pale purple colour known as lilac. Lilac itself comes from the Persian nilak meaning Indigo which in turn comes from nila, a Sanskrit word meaning light blue. Lilac was popular as a given name for girls in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. )
Origin: (Hebrew, English, Latin, French)
Pronunciation: (LIY-lak, LYE-lak)
Gender: Female
I personally think Lilac is a cute name. I think this is one of those not over done flower names. We all see Rose's and Lily's (not that there is anything wrong with Rose and Lily) every where but very few Lilac's. The name is feminine and beautiful. Could fit pretty much anyone and in any genre.
Character Naming
As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.
Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.
Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.
