Character Naming

As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.

Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.

Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.

Sakura

Meaning: (Cherry Blossom, Good, Cherry Tree, Cherry Tree Blossom)

Origin: (Japanese)

Pronunciation: (sah-kur-ah, SAH-ker-uh)

Gender: Female

I think this is a beautiful name. I have said this before Japanese names have amazing beautiful meanings. The look, sound and meaning of Sakura is beautiful and lovely. This is a popular name in Animes I heard though I don't read Animes. I hear it is a very popular female name in Japan. Still it is beautiful and I would love to see it used even more.

    The name Sakura is actually not a common name in Japan. In fact, I rarely come across a Japanese person with that name. Even in anime these days, the name isn't used much anymore.

      I am unfamiliar with what is considered popular or common names in many different countries, including Japan. I do come to like many names from other countries and I do try to do research on the names but sometimes some information about the names slip through. I did find a site that said it was popular but I can’t remember the site now as it has been a long time since I researched this name. Then I think I heard it or saw it was an anime name but again I am not sure which anime.

      I want to thank you for informing me and any readers of this blog that Sakura is not a popular Japanese name. I did not know that. I do still like it though. It is really pretty and I love the meanings. Also maybe the rarity of this name could be a good thing when naming a character or child or doing a name change.
