Character Naming

As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.

Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.

Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.

Angus

Meaning:  (One Choice, Exceptionally Strong, Scottish: Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Aonghus or Aonghas. Celtic Mythology: Angus Og is a God of attractive traits such as humor and wisdom. Also the name of an Eighth Century Pictish King known as Onnust or Hungus. In America, the name tends to be associated with breeds of cattle such as the Aberdeen Angus. Pet form Angie is pronounced ‘AN-ghee’ in Scottish, representing Gaelic Angaidh. The name has been used in Scotland since the 3rd Century BC, and later in the 15th Century, it was often linked to the clan McDonnell. The name Angusina is the female version of Angus.)

Origin: (Celtic, English, Irish, Scottish)

Pronunciation: (ANG-guss, AE-NGGahS)

Gender: Male

I was watching an episode of Law and Order SVU and one of the characters was a rich guy named Angus. I have never been a fan of this name because I think of cows when I hear it. Of course it does seem a wealthy persons name so it could work on a wealthy character, or maybe as a long family history name.

  1. Yay! It's great to see Angus on here. I always think of Angus as the name of an old Scottish gentleman. Mild tempered, but gets into mischief at times, much to the annoyance of his adult children.

    1. Yeah I think Angus gets a bad rap, and thus get's left out nowadays. I think that is a nice outlook on the name Angus. I can sort of see that now, LOL. :~)
