Character Naming

As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.

Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.

Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.

Quorra

Meaning: (Heart, Maiden, Variant spelling of Cora.)

Origin: (Italian, Greek)

Pronunciation: (KOR-ah)

Gender: Female

This is an old name even though people don’t think so. Most people think it is just a unique or some say stupid spelling of Cora. Quorra is a name. It is also the name of a movie character in Tron: Legacy. I think this is a unique and quite beautiful name. I love this spelling a lot.

  1. Could you point me to some sort of direction for where it has been used in "older" times? I keep getting a confliction on pronunciation from KOR-ah to K-W-or-ah

  2. Me again. It just seems that there is a huge confliction between the Greek pronunciation and the Italian.

    Qu follows such interesting rules.

Queen and Quote all have the K-W
    But Quran is just K

    1. I have tried to find where I read about the long history of Quorra. Unfortunately it’s been a long while since I researched the name, even though I put this post on here last month it’s been a long time since I had researched it, as I research and write down names a long while before I add them to my blog. I wish I had written down in my post about the history but I didn’t and I can’t find it now.

Now I did find that it was on a medieval map. It was the name of the lower Niger River in now modern Nigeria, Africa. In some instances it says it was spelled Quorra, pronounced Kworra and in others it says it was spelled Kworra, pronounced as it reads. I believe it was Quorra pronounced Kworra.

You can Google Niger River and look particularly at the Wikipedia page about it. Or just Google Niger River with Quorra and look at the information about it.

Proper pronunciation is important. Now it depends on several things as to how you pronounce this name, just like any other name. It depends on usage- like if for a character it depends on desired origin and era. If for a Childs name or other purpose it depends on you, because people all over the world have different ways they pronounce names because of their accents or other causes that change the pronunciation in their region.

If sticking to the medieval form I would say pronounce it Kworra / K-W-or-ah. Now if you want the Italian or modern usage I say stick with KOR-ah, like Cora. But in the end both pronunciations are correct, as far as I can find in my researches.

I hope this helped answer your questions. :~)

I try to have the most accurate Meanings, Origin and Pronunciations for the names on this blog. It is best though to do research into the names you decide to use for your characters as there can be errors on my blog. Or meanings, origins, and pronunciations I have not seen thus not been able to add to this blog.
