Origin: (Sanskrit, Latin)

This is the name of one of the fairy's in the Disney Pixie Hollow Tinker Bell movies. I kind of like the name. You definitely don't hear it often and it has a nice sound to it and a good meaning.
Character Naming
As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.
Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.
Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.

I try to have the most accurate Meanings, Origin and Pronunciations for the names on this blog. It is best though to do research into the names you decide to use for your characters as there can be errors on my blog. Or meanings, origins, and pronunciations I have not seen thus not been able to add to this blog.

I always thought the character's name derived from "invidia," which is Latin for "envy." It makes more sense with her character given her jealousy of Tinker Bell's talent. Plus, her name is pronounced "vid-ee-ah," not "vid-yaa."
ReplyDeleteI looked it up and it says Vidia could be derived from Invidia that's for the fairy character. Personally I prefer the meaning when Vidia is a form of Vidya. Only beacause I like the meaning of Vidya.
ReplyDeleteAny way I added a correction to this post. Thanks for the comments.
My name is Vidia - derived from the Hindu name meaning wisdom and understanding. My parents chose to spell it like this rather than the more common spelling Vidya.
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment! I am glad you found my blog to be of interest and that you found your name on the list of posts! I like to reply to all comments but was unable to reply until now. Vidia / Vidya are very lovely names with divine meanings and it is nice to hear of someone with this name as it isn’t very common where I live. I also tend to prefer the spelling Vidia to Vidya.
DeleteThanks again for your comment and I hope you come back and keep finding my blog to be of interest!
As a child I didn't like my name...Vidia. But as I got older I liked it more because it's not a common name. But after learning what it really means makes me love it more!!!

ReplyDeleteIt’s so funny that just a few weeks ago another Vidia had commented! This isn’t a name you hear of being used too often and now I’ve heard of it twice! It is a lovely name and I do very much like the meanings which I think are very pretty and intellectual! I like the foreign to English speakers look to the name!
DeleteI was similar to you when I was younger, I didn’t like my uncommon name of Cassidy when I was little. I was often the only Cassidy in my class and sometimes whole school before the name became a bit more common. I would have preferred Elizabeth or Victoria but as I discovered more of the meaning of Cassidy, the history and came to really look at it in a new way I came to love it as I got older! I think names that aren’t very common but aren’t strange either have a charm! I like uncommon unique names very much!

i like my first name and middle name.
ReplyDeleteInitially I was confused why my mother gave me the name "vidia"
I am sorry for my late reply but bad weather and then a busy schedule made me unable to reply until now. I do hope you come back and read this reply sometime. I found it funny to hear of another Vidia only because there have already been two more this year alone that commented above and are named Vidia and too had the same feeling toward their name before growing up and coming to appreciate it. If your middle name is the Oktaviani listed then I think that too is a really interesting name!
DeleteI am glad you found your name on my blog! I am also glad to have heard of another Vidia and I want to thank you for leaving a comment! I am glad you found my blog to be of use and interest! Please come back and view my blog often as it is always changing!
Vidia Halewa
DeleteMy name is Vidia and I am Arabic from Jerusalem. I had no clue that anyone else has that name because since i was little i was told thatit was a popular name brand for drill bits. And since my last name means sweet or pretty, they always said that it fits me well because I am really sweet but hard headed at the same time. And now that I know the true meaning of Vidia I love it and it fits me better. I was wondering what nationality are the other two Vidia's on here.
Oh I hadn’t heard this is the name of a brand of drill bits but that is interesting to know and funny how your family describes you in connection to your first and last names meanings! :~) The meaning of your last name is very lovely, thanks for sharing that!
DeleteI’m glad that my post was able to shed light onto the actual meanings of your name and that you were able to learn it’s meaning here!
As for the nationality of the other Vidia’s who have commented I would say you can go to their Google+ page or if they have a blog go to that and see or maybe they will come back and see your comment and reply. I hope that helps!
Thanks for leaving a comment and I’m glad you found my post and blog to be of interest and I’m glad you were able to find your name on my blog! It’s funny of course that you’re the fourth Vidia to leave a comment this year though, lol! Again thanks for leaving a comment and I hope you come back and explore my blog again as it’s always changing!
