Character Naming

As an Author naming your Character is an important step right after coming up with the plot. I am here to help you choose the right character name for you and your story.

Make sure your character name is Genre Appropriate. Make sure if it's a Historical Fiction novel or takes place in a real time period that the name was used then. Or if it's a fictionalized place then you can be as creative as you wish.

Just have fun with naming your character. It is after all your story.

I Am Back!!!

Hello Everyone,

I have been off of here since November of 2014 and it has really bugged me to have to. I have greatly missed blogging. Fortunately below this post are new name posts! :~) My laptop has been broken since June 2014 so I was using my moms desktop. Over this last weekend my Brother-in-law Karl looked at my computer. He has to keep it to hopefully replace the CD Rom drive so he can reboot and reload my info onto there. He was fortunately able to save my info on flash drives for me. Since they live a about 4 hours away I wont be getting it back for a while.

That leads me to my mom’s computer. The power supply source went out in November 2014. So I tried to use a friend’s computer to update my blog followers but Google thought I was a hacker and locked me out. So now that my mom’s computer is fixed I am back on. It took a while to get it all fixed but I am back on.

I want to say to those that have left comments I did get them and I really wanted to reply but was unable to at the time. Now I am back on I have replied to your comments, just in case by some chance you all come back and check.

I have really missed blogging and replying to comments as I said above but I am thrilled to be back on and baring any unforeseen occurrences I should be updating every month now.

Happy Reading! Happy Blogging! And Peace to You All!

Diviana

Meaning: (Light, Deity, Devine, Of a God with Indo-European Roots deiwos= Sky Day and Shining. Form of Diana, is a form of Divus (Devine).)

Origin: (Indo-European, English, Latin, Nordic)

Pronunciation: (DIYVIYAENAH)

Gender: Female

This is a beautiful name with gorgeous meanings. I forget where I saw this name but I think it has a beautiful foreign look. I think it would make an amazing character name. Cute nicknames could be: Div, Divia, or Ana.

Evanna

Meaning: (Peaceful, Variant of Evania.)

Origin: (Scottish, Greek)

Pronunciation: (EE-VAN-A, Eh-va-na)

Gender: Female

This is the name of an actress who was in the Harry Potter films, she played Luna Lovegood. I only know that as I saw a documentary about the author’s works and the documentary had interviews with the actors and actresses of the films. I don’t read novels or watch movies with the theme similar to Harry Potter novels / movies. However when I watched the documentary I saw the actresses name and liked it. I think the name Evanna is very pretty and I love the meaning a lot, who doesn’t like Peace. I just got back from a Circuit Assembly (Religious Assembly) that had the following theme: Seek Peace and Pursue It, based on 1 Peter 3:11. I really enjoyed the assembly. So seeing the meanings of this name I liked it even more. This name is also a nice female alternative to Evan.

Shiphrah

Meaning: (Beautiful, To Be Fair, Agreeable, Polished, Elegant, In the Old Testament this is the name of one of the midwives who disobeyed the Pharaoh’s order to kill any Hebrew boys they deliver.)

Origin: (Hebrew, Biblical)

Pronunciation: (Shif-ra, Sh-ih-prah)

Gender: Female

A few months ago there was a Watchtower that I was reading about the midwives who spared Hebrew male babies lives at birth which was going against the Pharaoh’s orders. I think the name is unique by English speaker’s standards yet the uniqueness is interesting to me. The meanings are beautiful and all in all I like this name a lot.

The below text is from the book Insight, Volume 2, Published by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The Greek Septuagint reads Sepphora in both Exodus 1:15 and 2:21; the Masoretic text, however, reads Shiphrah and Zipporah respectively. The Aramaic form of the name is Sapphira.

Shiphrah was one of the Hebrew midwives who, together with Puah, was commanded by Pharaoh to kill all the Hebrew male babies immediately at birth. Being a God-fearing woman, however, and having respect for the sanctity of human life (Ge 9:6), she preserved the boy babies alive and was blessed by Jehovah with a family of her own.—Ex 1:15-21.

Sophitia

Meaning: (Wise Goddess, Wisdom, Grace, Derived from Sofia.)

Origin: (Greek)

Pronunciation: (So-Fith-tee-ah, So-Fit-ya)

Gender: Female

This is a beautiful name with very beautiful meanings. It has a gorgeous look to it and yet is unique but still derived from a common name like Sofia *see on list of posts*. I think I saw this name too on TV on Heroes of Cosplay. I think this name would fit in a fantasy novel as a Princess or Royal.

Bernadetta

Meaning: (Strong, Brave as a Bear, Variant of Bernadette, Feminine of Bernard.)

Origin: (French, Old German)

Pronunciation: (B-ERNAHDEHT-AH, Ber-na-DET-uh)

Gender: Female

I saw a movie where one of the characters was named Birdie and it was a nickname for Bernadette or Bernadetta. The meanings are interesting and I think though this has a feel of an old world name and perhaps dated it still has a slight freshness nowadays. In a novel I would say this would make a good hand me down family name for a character.

Thorin

Meaning: (Thunder, Chief, Variant of Torin. Variant of Thor. Thor was the Norse God of Thunder and Power, One of the Sons of Odin.)

Origin: (Old Norse, Norse Mythology, Irish Gaelic, English)

Pronunciation: (toh-rehn, Tor-in, Thor-en)

Gender: Male

So a few months back I saw the Hobbit movies again and the main Dwarf is named Thorin Oakenshield. I really like the name a lot and the strong meanings are great too. It is a nice more unique name that still has a connection to the name Thor. Thorin is a name that could be a male alternative to Thor and Thora *see on list of posts* the female alternative.

Jahan

Meaning: (The World, Universe)

Origin: (Persian, Hindi, Sanskrit)

Pronunciation: (JHaa-HHAE-N)

Gender: Uni-Sex

There is a band I forget whose name it is but one of the women in the band is named Jahan. I saw it a lot and I really came to like it. The meanings give a look of vastness and beauty.

Tira

Meaning: (Arrow, Land, Encampment, Ancient Goddess)

Origin: (Hindi, Scottish, Hebrew, Persian)

Pronunciation:  (TIHIYR-aa, tea-ra, tear-uh)

Gender: Female

I forget where I saw this but I really like the simple parts of it. It looks like Tyra as in model Tyra Banks but I like Tira much better as it seems a bit more feminine. I also think it looks like a Princess like name. The meanings are interesting.

I try to have the most accurate Meanings, Origin and Pronunciations for the names on this blog.
