Winifred

Meaning: (Blessed Peace, Fair Reconciliation, Peaceful Friend, Derived from the Welsh Gwenfrewi (Blessed Peace), a compound name composed of the elements Gwen (White, Fair, Blessed) and Frewi (Peace, Reconcile), It became used in England in the 16th Century.)

Origin: (Welsh, Teutonic, English, Old English)

Pronunciation: (WI-ni-frehd, WIN-i-frid, WIN-ih-fred)

Gender: Female

This is a very old fashioned name rarely used today. I love the meanings and the look of it. The common nickname is Winnie which I also love and am going to add it after this as a stand alone name. I have used Winifred nickname Winnie as a character name in one of my novels before. Personally I like the name though I can see where some might not care too much for it.
