Sapphire

Meaning: (Jewel name and the birthstone for September. The Hebrew names Sapir and Saphira, like the English word and name Sapphire, are derived from the Hebrew term for the gem. Sapir is very rarely used, probably because the biblical Sapphira was a woman who was executed by God for lying. Safira (sa-FEER-ah) (Spanish) is based on Ceferino, from Zephyr, the name of a third-century pope.)

Origin: (English)

Pronunciation: (SAFF-ire, SAF-ier)

Gender: Female

Sapphire is one of my favorite gem names. It is beautiful and very rarely used in novels as character names. It is a name that could work in different genres and eras. I haven't used it as a character name but I think it is lovely and unique and should be used as a character name.
