Coty / Cote

Meaning: (Riverbank, Coast, Small Slope, Hill Side, Place name and Surname. Use as a given name has probably been influenced by the popular Cody. The first name is derived from the English surname, which is itself from the nickname for someone who lives near a Coast, Riverbank, or else a place so named.)

Origin: (French, Celtic, English)

Pronunciation: (KowTAY, KowTIY, Co-Ty)

Gender: Female, Possibly Uni-Sex

I had seen this name (the Cote spelling) as the name of the actress that used to be on NCIS, she played Ziva David. I never really knew how it was pronounced. I thought it was odd really. Then I was watching a show about a girl who became a killer and they kept saying it and I thought it was Cody but when they showed family and friends below their names on screen it would say Coty’s mother or Coty’s sister. So I was like so that’s how that is pronounced. So I Googled it and saw that Cote and Coty are the same name and pronounced the same. So at least now I know how to say this. I do like it better than Cody and I think it looks unique and foreign but I like it. I don’t think I will use it and I think authors should use it sparingly because most won’t know how to pronounce this name. The meanings are good and decent as well.
